Hey San Francisco, what do you need?
Listen to an episode of Recode Decode with Kara Swisher as she speaks with San Francisco mayor London Breed. London Breed is wrapping up her first term as major of SF and has big thoughts and initiatives that could potentially decrease homelessness, provide support to folks who are suffering from addiction and improve the housing crisis. Overall, we really get to hear about the crisis in SF and how people turn a blind eye and hope the "bad" things disappear when the support from citizens is needed to create positive change and reform.
Biggest takeaway: London is working on a program called 'Opportunities for All' and she breaks down the structure of what it's all about and the impact it will have on younger kids in SF. The program will provide paid internships for young adults at no cost to the workplace providing the internship. Opportunities for All will handle the funding and hopefully expose kids to varying roles in the tech industry. This effort is a big step towards investing in young folks who may become part of the SF workforce in the near and long term.
